Back in the Swing of Things
Hip and happening. That’s right, we’re talking about Singapore! That’s how Time magazine has described Singapore. The quality of life here is not just good but great.

Singapore’s voted one of the best cities in the world to live in. It’s no wonder. Our economy’s thriving, opportunities abound, our transport system is world class, our education’s tops, our public housing’s great… well, you know the rest.

Whatever fun you’ve had overseas you can experience the same here (so long it’s legal, that is). Salsa, tango, rock climbing, bungee jumping - you name it, we’ve got it right here too.

There’s so much you can do all year round. Our calendar is just packed with exciting events and festivals. At The Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay, you can catch quality performances throughout the year that would cost you an arm and a leg in any other cultural capital of the world. Visit our galleries and museums, you’ll be pleasantly surprised with the quality of art shown here.

There are some 4,300 restaurants, cafes and eateries, from the swanky to the cozy. Our clubs and pubs, led by Zouk, play the latest tracks and attract the region’s cosmopolitan crowd.

If you prefer to read, there’s the new National Library at Victoria Street, with an extensive collection of fiction, self-help, business and reference books.

Great news for techies: Singapore’s getting even more wired than it is now. With the recently launched Intelligent Nation 2015 masterplan (iN2015), you’ll experience an increased usage of technology at work, at home and at play in the near future. Pssst, the rates for broadband access have dropped to about $40 per month, and are slated to go even lower, maybe even free, who knows?

Best to experience all of these yourself when you come home. Hey, the future in Singapore looks really bright.

Volunteering
Want to contribute to a good cause and tap your hidden potential at the same time? Try volunteering. Volunteering has become part of Singaporean lifestyle. It’s also a wonderful way of meeting new people. There are many organisations you can contribute your time and resources to.  You can do what you do best: organise events, take care of admin work, or just lead in fun activities that cheer others up!

With the skills and talents you have, you’ll surely find an organisation that best suits you. Start with the National Volunteer & Philanthrophy Centre. It has a rich database of voluntary welfare organisations (VWOs) and the kind of skills they are looking for. To find an organisation which interests you, try its Volunteer e-Match, an online service which matches volunteers, like you with VWOs.
